The Hep Cats Ball was a Benefit for Allen Cohen of the San Francisco Oracle who was in need of a liver transplant which he received on Oct. 23. He is currently recuperating and is extremely thankful to everyone for all their support.

Phil Lesh and The Hep Kats are: Lorin Rowan (guitar & vocals)
Chris Rowan (guitar & vocals), Martin Fierro (sax)
Barry Sless (guitar & pedal steel),
George Michalski (keyboards), Praire Prince (drums)

The show was MC'd by Chet Helms and Carlos Reyes opened.

Immediately after The Hep Kat's set, J.C. Juanis presented Phil Lesh and Chet Helms a Proclamation from the California State Legislature noting Phil & Chet's (2 Hep Cats) efforts in educating people on the hep C crisis. (That was the donor rap). Chet gave Allen the proclamation from Willie Brown declaring October 29th Allen Cohen Day in San Francisco.

That was followed by inspirational words from Ram Dass who lectured eloquently from his wheelchair (he is a stroke survivor who has come back). Then a prerecorded video with Allen Cohen reciting two poems was shown (it was very emotional and there was not a dry eye in the house).

Afterwards Don't Push The Clown played "Spring Water," "Shotgun House," "Use Me Up" and others. They were incredible as was the whole evening.
